RIP Alexander McQueen

Today marks the passing at age 40 of one of the great artistic visionaries of our time, British Fashion Designer Alexander McQueen. McQueen created a fantastical universe of Rockstar fashion fantasies, where classic lines where mutated into masterpieces of coolness. The photography and graphics where simply mindblowing, inspiring, arresting. I remember seeing an early ad some 10 years ago, which perhaps single handedly made me want to get into photography. Then the store opened around the corner on Melrose, and passing by the showroom window was akin to walking in a museum gallery. I did this just last night. 2 years ago, model Reeja bought herself this incredible pair which we both fell in love with, and we made it the centerpiece of her series. Later, while shooting my friend Jes upcoming album cover, the store kindly let us borrow some great pieces from their collection. Never met nicer people. Today, the store was closed and the windows left bare. Reefs were laid in front of the entrance. Cars stopped  to take cell phone photos. Thank you for making our world cooler with your fabulous talent mr. McQueen. You will be missed.
